Understanding promotional code issues
If you find that your promotional code isn't working properly, there may be a number of reasons. Here are the most garden-variety ones:
You made a typo when you entered the code
Whoops! But it happens to everyone. If your promotional code didn't work, it's worth trying again, paying careful attention to any dashes and capital or lowercase letters in the code. Your account's too old
Promotional codes are often intended for new advertisers, as a helpful way to get started with AdWords. So a promotional code might not work if the account that you're applying it to is older than what's listed in the code's terms and conditions. Your promotional code has expired
Like most promotions, promotional codes can be used for a limited time. If it's past the expiry date for the promotional code, it's no longer usable. Google can't accept or replace expired promotional codes. But you can still activate your account without one. You tried to use multiple codes, or one code on multiple accounts
Usually, promotional codes are limited to one per advertiser. Also, codes that you've already applied to an account can't be used again in the same account or a different one. You've used the maximum number of promotional codes that you're allowed
Sometimes, you can use more than one promotional code. But there's still a limit to the number of promotional codes that you can use. Check the code's terms and conditions for limitations. You tried applying the code to existing costs
Promotional codes only apply to future costs, not existing costs. So if you use a code and have an account balance, that balance won't be adjusted. You tried applying the code in the wrong region
Promotional codes don't travel well. If you received one in a particular region or country, it might not work outside that region or country. You applied a code that you didn't receive from Google
Google sometimes partners with certain companies to offer promotional codes (and those partners might have their own rules for a promotional code, so make sure that you check them!). If you received a promotional code from a website or service that you don't have a business relationship with, it's possible that you've received an invalid code. Websites often have old codes that don't work. Before signing up to receive a promotional code, it's best to confirm that a service or company has a relationship with us.
