Paying for AdWords
When it comes to paying for AdWords, you've got many choices. But you only need to keep two things in mind when setting up your billing information:
* How you pay (payment settings): This is how you make your payments. With AdWords, you can make payments before your ads show (manual payments) or make payments after your ads appear, and have those payments made automatically (automatic payments). Some businesses are also eligible for a Google credit line (monthly invoicing).
* Your form of payment: This is what you use to pay your costs, such as a credit or debit card. A form of payment might be one that's available only in your country and the currency you've selected for your account.
As you know, AdWords has no minimum spending requirement. While there might be a minimum transaction amount when you make a manual payment (£10 in the UK), you have complete control over the maximum amount you want to spend.
Read on for more information about each payment setting, forms of payment and tips.
How you pay (payment settings)
Click a link below to learn more about each payment setting.
Automatic payments (pay after your ads run)
If you've ever had the lights in your house go out because you forgot to pay the electricity bill, this setting's for you. With automatic payments, you set up a form of payment in your account and your costs are paid automatically. This helps to ensure that your ads always run - even if your electricity doesn't.
How it works
You're charged only after you've accrued advertising costs. And you'll be billed in one of two instances: either 30 days after your last payment, or whenever your costs reach your billing threshold (the set amount that triggers a bill).
Manual payments (pay before your ads run)
If you like to pay for your ads before they run and have a fluctuating budget for your costs, this setting might be for you. With the manual payments setting, you make a payment for the amount you'd like whenever you'd like.
But if you're someone who forgets to make payments now and then - and who hasn't? - this might not be the best setting for you. That's because your ads will stop running when there's no money left in your account. And they won't begin again until you've made another payment.
How it works
With this setting, you make a payment to your AdWords account before your ads run. Then, as your ads run, your advertising costs are deducted from the payment you've made. We can notify you by email (if you asked us to) when your account balance starts getting low, and you can make another payment whenever you'd like.
Monthly invoicing (pay using a credit line)
You might be eligible to use monthly invoicing as a payment setting, if your business meets certain requirements. Typically, this payment setting is used by large advertisers and businesses.
How it works
With this setting, we'll provide you a line of credit for your advertising costs. You then pay for those costs - according to terms and conditions that you've agreed to - using a cheque or bank transfer.
How to apply
You can apply for monthly invoicing if your business meets certain requirements. These include, but aren't limited to:
* Being registered as a business for a minimum of one year
* Spending a minimum of £5,000 a month (this can vary by country)
If you meet these initial requirements and would like to apply for monthly invoicing, contact your customer service representative.
Forms of Payment
A form of payment could be a credit or debit card, a bank account or a transfer of money to Google. Every country offers different ones, so be sure to explore the available forms of payment in your location.
Tips
* If you're setting up payment information for the first time and using your bank account to make payments, you can choose to use a credit card while your bank account is verified. This lets your ads start running right away. And once your account is verified, you can assign it as your primary form of payment.
* If you don't want your ads to run immediately after we process a manual payment, pause your campaigns.
